Reverse Osmosis
At Lakeside we have a wide and varied range of water filters and water purifiers, these can be used for a number of applications including filtering drinking water, aquatics and a whole list of commercial applications, the systems we have are very versatile and diverse and very effective.
About Water
Approximately 70% of the human body is water, but this amount of water needs only to decrease by a few percent for dehydration to occur. Water is used by the body to lubricate the joints and eyes, aids digestion, flushes out waste toxins and keeps skin healthy.
When the normal water content of the body is reduced dehydration occurs. Even mild dehydration of just 1% to 2% can affect the body causing it to work less efficiently.
Signs of dehydration include:
- Dry mouth
- Chapped or dry lips
- Dry eyes
- Headaches
- Light Headedness
- Dizziness
- Tiredness
- Confusion and Irritability
- Loss of appetite
Water from the body is lost through sweat, urine and breathing and by not drinking enough fluid everyday water loss is not being replaced.
To prevent dehydration the Foods Standard Agency FSA recommends that people living in the United Kingdom should drink 1 – 2 litres (6-8 glasses) of water every day and if exercising or during hot weather this amount should be increased.
Wherever it goes, water will dissolve and absorb the materials around it until it has reached saturation point, constantly renewing the contaminants it contains on its never ending circulation.
At all stages of the hydrological cycle water is exposed to pollutants, both natural and organic, all which will affect the taste, quality and standard of the water.
During precipitation water quickly absorbs glasses from the atmosphere surrounding it, changing the contents of the water which may now include :
- Carbon Dioxide
- Industrial Emissions
- Carbon Monoxide
- Sulphuric Acids
As the water nears the ground it is exposed to other contaminants such as:
- Spores
- Bacteria
- Lead
- Emissions and other airborne particles
Much of this mixture falls into the world’s oceans or is evaporated back into the atmosphere but that which lands on earth is used to replenish underground water aquifers and surface water supplies.
Whilst the earth’s crust filters some of the contaminants from water, it is now exposed to the pathogens, pollutants and minerals that are contained below the surface.
- Limestone
- Magnesium
- Iron
- Sulphates
- Chlorides
- Pesticides
- Nitrates
Your water supplier is keen to ensure that the water reaches you in an adequate standard, however other chemicals are now added. Some elements are to enhance the water; some are to clean it whilst others linger in the water as by-products of these processes.
- Chlorine
- Fluoride
- Disinfection by-products such as bromate or chloroform
- Cryptosporidium
Hard water
Hard water is a mixture of calcium and magnesium – these elements combined form a scale which causes pipes to fur up and scale to collect in kettles, electric irons and washing machines, dishwashers. If scale collects on heating elements it shortens their appliance life and makes appliances less efficient. It is also difficult to work up a lather from soaps and washing up liquids and can leave tide marks on sinks, baths, showers and toilets.
Lakeside Filter & Purifier Range
The Stream
The simplest in home plumbing drinking water systems with the added benefit of DIY Installation, being of steam lined design and consisting of minimal components, the Stream is the favourable choice of space saving, under sink, filtration systems with low running costs and is space saving.
Because the water varies around the country, the stream has a choice of two system options: one for soft water areas and the other for hard water areas. Both systems remove bad taste, odour, chlorine with the option for hard water areas having built in scale control.
Installation
The Simplicity of the Stream makes this system a popular choice and ideal for the DIY enthusiast. Installation requires no shutting off of the water supply or cutting of pipes, hence an easy DIY Installation for yourself or your installer. The system comes with step by step instructions.

Reverse Osmosis Purifying Systems
Providing the ultimate pure water, the reverse osmosis drinking water system is designed to improve the quality of drinking water beyond that of popular carbon devised systems.
The operation of reverse osmosis systems includes filter housings containing specialist filter cartridges or membranes which systematically clean the water passing through it with the purified end result being stored in a tank and drawn off for use via a separate tap. This process not only sediment, bad taste, odour and chlorine but also unwanted salts and dissolved minerals (TDS) such as fluoride, nitrate, calcium, magnesium as well as cysts and a variety of metals.
This system will require installation from a professional plumber or a very competent DIY person and will also require on going maintenance and filter and membrane changes.
There are 6 Reverse Osmosis systems within the Lakeside range all with varying features and benefits but all very popular models and complete as systems.
